Abstract
  • Explores a range of understandings of spirituality and Christian spiritual formation. Presents an interfaith model for how the teachings and practices of the Buddhist traditions might be utilized by Christians in their own spiritual development. This model is based on a 'Spiritual Formation Guidebook' designed around the framework of the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path and including corresponding Christian insights. A sampling of laity, clergy, and seminary professors used the guidebook for one month and then provided their overwhelmingly positive evaluations. Implications are discussed in relation to: resistance, a pragmatic approach to spiritual formation, programming possibilities, and interfaith relationships.
