  • This paper maintains that the Church is called to look to God, who first sanctified time, to guide us in ordering and expending our time. It maintains that pastors must affirm the organization of their own time as a form of artistry. Sabbath time is a discipline and reminder of our sacred calling. The study, based upon the work of Abraham Joshua Heschel, develops practical congregational applications from Jewish traditions. One conclusion: helping an older congregation to recognize both the preciousness of time and the reality of different time frames today requires making multiple interventions over longer periods of time.
