Abstrakt

This thesis argues that preacher self-disclosure, when used carefully and appropriately, is a useful homiletical tool in communicating God's love in Jesus Christ. The author's ministry context is a moderately sized American Baptist congregation in east-central Pennsylvania where he preached several sermons incorporating various types of self-disclosure. Congregational listeners verified the validity of the project thesis through feedback via questionnaires and group discussion with the author. The learning shapes a list of guiding questions which the author offers to help preachers determine the appropriateness of self-disclosure in their own settings.
