Abstract
  • This project explores some of the tensions and challenges faced by younger elders in the United Methodist Church in the transitional period between the modern and postmodern eras. Drawing on the theology of ordination in the Wesleyan and United Methodist traditions, the project engaged a small cohort group of ordained elders in the California-Pacific Annual Conference in a year-long conversation on the spiritual, theological and practical issues of leading the United Methodist Church in this period of transition. Participants suggested ways in which a Wesleyan theology of ministry might be revised and utilized in the postmodern era.
