- The project studies the effect chaplains in the Federal Bureau of Prisons have on recidivism. The project limited itself to the theological viewpoint of the author, Wesleyan-Holiness. The methods of research included a search of literature regarding religion and criminality as well as interviews with inmates. The project concluded that chaplains can help effect recidivism both positively and negatively. Studies show that chaplains who model integrity and facilitate ongoing teaching and accountability groups for inmates help reduce recidivism. Four programs involving chaplains that reduce recidivism are faith-based housing units, Kairos, Prison Fellowship and the Bureau's Drug Abuse Prevention program.
