The purpose of this project is twofold. The author will seek to assist those who have had an encounter with evil and suffering to interpret their own experience. Biblical and philosophical knowledge will be integrated with their personal experience as a means of equipping them to provide care for others who are currently suffering. The project proposes that attempts to address the problem of evil and suffering through theodicy fail to provide both the adequate theoretical answers and the practical comfort sufferers need. The project further proposes that the personal experience of those who have suffered uniquely qualifies them to address the suffering of others. The concepts of a suffering God and the ethical demands of the incarnation will be presented as a basis for a philosophy of ministry to fellow sufferers. The power of personal testimony, the power of presence, the process of grief, and the pursuit of a mature faith will be offered as a means of preparing individuals to provide care for fellow sufferers. Participants will be involved in making care visits to those who are currently suffering.
