- Abstract
- In the years following WWII, many within the A.M.E. Zion Church were active in the civil rights movement, but in recent years some have become concerned about the church's inability to address the needs of African-American families and communities. The author, an A.M.E. Zion member and pastor from 1987-2004, interviewed several African-American individuals who have been long active in the denomination. Based on his ministry experience, his study of African-American life and church history, and his interviews and interactions with laity and clergy, the author suggests that spiritual renewal is essential for a revival of A.M.E. Zion Church mission and purpose.
