Abstract
  • The project focused on developing a pastoral care ministry. A needs assessment survey was conducted among the parishioners of New Hope Baptist Church located in Upton community of West Baltimore. Results revealed that the three greatest areas of concern to the participants were teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and AIDS. Four seminars were conducted to address these issues. The evaluation forms revealed that 97 percent of the seminar participants believed a clear need existed for parishioners to have information pertaining to the state of health and social concerns effecting Black families. A variety of programs were instituted including development of a resource manual of community services, and a bi-weekly report to the congregation.
