- Abstract
- Christian hospitality relates the gifts of diversity in church community and society and provides spiritual support, moral awareness, pastoral care, healing, restoration for military veterans and their families. Scriptural study and lessons from all faiths, religious practices and social-civil responsibilities, can provide and enhanced understanding and collaboration of the community's gifts and needs, and helps reduce divisiveness, alienation and destructiveness. The American population in 2013 is 317 million people; 22 million are surviving veterans, plus an estimated 13 million family members. Gulf Shores United Methodist Church, Gulf Shores, Alabama developed a project of awareness and participation with families and veterans by engaging in a year long process to evaluate and enhance veteran participation in congregational community through worship, service and hospitality.
