Abstract
  • This project explores the experience of a Lutheran parish as old forms of congregational structure are dissolved in favor of a more amorphous, organic system of discerning, developing, and deploying spiritual gifts of members under the direction of ministry team leaders. All boards and committees are disbanded. Team leaders administer spiritual-gifts inventories to discover resources of lay people and employ them in meaningful service. If the church is to survive into the twenty-first century, it must be free to employ new organizational paradigms of leadership by lay people who are empowered to use God-given spiritual gifts.
