Abstract
  • This Doctor of Ministry project attempts to set forth the development and design of ministerial performance of Roman Catholic Clergy in the Diocese of Cleveland. The development consisted first in researching existing programs of clergy evaluation in the United States both Roman Catholic and Protestant. Secondly, the project involved psychological preparation of priests for the possibility of ministerial performance evaluation. Priests were personally interviewed in a stratified, random sampling. They also did a time-study or functions survey as to how they spend their time in ministry. Three kinds of instruments for evaluation were designed: self evaluation, peer evaluation, and lay evaluation. The process for evaluation includes the assistance of a third party, priest confidant who gathers and interprets all of the responses. The program was adopted by the Diocese of Cleveland. Other dioceses and denominations might also benefit from it.
