- This research project was designed to investigate how the experience of ministry for women affected their close personal relationships. In 1989 questionnaires were distributed to ninety-nine United Methodist clergywomen and seminary students in southern New England. Twenty-nine were returned completed. Six interviews were conducted. The responses showed that: women pastors made church their highest priority, giving sacrificially of themselves, neglecting relationships and self-care; the women's lack of self-care undermined their ability to meet demands; and demands were so great that many of the respondents dropped out of ministry, school, or marriages.
