  • Recently several large New England hospitals have reduced pastoral care services. One way to respond to these changes would be for local churches to support chaplaincy services in hospitals and institutions. Using a survey of local clergy and church members, this project assesses the perceived need for, value of, and role expectations of hospital chaplains at the Malden Hospital, Malden, Massachusetts, and the willingness of local churches to support chaplaincy services. The responses to the survey indicated a low perceived need for and willingness to support chaplaincy services among the Protestant clergy and Protestant church members surveyed.
