Abstract
  • Boston is noted as: a city of religious pluralism, 'the Athens of America', and a major urban center. Tremont Temple Baptist Church was founded in 1839 as the First Free Baptist Church in an era of controversy over abolition. This thesis considers the theological assumptions of urban ministry, a brief history of the Baptists in New England, and history of Tremont Temple's ministry of pastoral care. Projections by Boston Redevelopment Authority are used to project a ministry of pastoral care in the year 2000 AD. Essentially, the study attempts to come to grips with the changing nature of urban ministry.
