  • The objective of this study is to construct a theology of Christian clowning using sources from the Bible, early monasticism, and medieval and post-modern theologians. The primary thesis is that a theology of modern Christian clowning can be constructed on four theological pillars: folly, silence, paradox, and deconstruction. A wide variety of biblical, monastic, medieval, and post-modern sources were consulted. The study resulted in a theological analysis of Christian clowning--using traditional materials--that will be useful for ordained clergy and ministry professionals who are interested in pursuing a ministry of Christian clowning.
