Abstract

The thrust of this project was to determine if the process of creating a gift-oriented, ministry position descriptions manual proved effective in helping volunteers grasp the purposes, roles, expectations, and provisions of local church ministry. The project augmented the author's seminar Discover Your Ministry ID. The ministry of the whole people of God according to their God-given design, ministry role, and purpose was explored, along with examining Christian volunteer culture. Implementation included data-gathering, training workshops, and an appreciation banquet for volunteers. Several contributions emerged from the experience and the manual: the dual-workshop, an intentional ground-up approach, and a comprehensive one-page description format used in the manual, which created a concise, and clearly communicated recruitment tool.
