- Abstract
- The purpose of this project is to make a contribution to a long-standing debate over 'women in office' in the Christian Reformed Church. Historical and biblical-theological research leads to the preparation for, and approval of, an overture in Classis Alberta South and Saskatchewan, on the subject of the delegation of women to classis as deacons (but not as ministers, elders and evangelists). This seeks to recognize a role for 'women-deacons' in the ministry and government of the church as part of a team which includes male 'pastor-teachers' and 'elder-deacons' thereby safeguarding the biblical 'headship' principle.
