Abstract
  • An examination of the intentionally developed community life of cabinets, this project explores ways corporate experience enriches and informs the work and spiritual formation of district superintendents. The cabinet of the West Virginia Annual Conference is the primary laboratory, with additional resourcing from similar groups across the United Methodist connection in North America. Results show a correlation between the strength of the cabinet's shared life and the superintendents' sense of being nurtured and empowered to do their work. When community exists, superintendents celebrate it; when it is absent, they long for it. Practical suggestions for strengthening the cabinet's communal life are offered.
