Abstract
  • Models exist in the Bible to describe the recent new church start story in the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church. These models could be useful in energizing existing churches to participate in planting new churches. Limiting the focus to post 1979 starts, research was a combination of historical, quantitative and qualitative reviews augmented through interviews with pastors and laity possessing specific knowledge of individual church stories. Two potential models were examined: Elijah (2 Kings 2) for closing/merging and Antioch (Acts 13:1-4) for sending out. Models were applicable to appropriate successful church plants in the conference.
