  • How might mainline churches strengthen ties with their post-high school eighteen to twenty-nine year-olds and call them to fulfill their covenant with Christ and their home congregations? Research and the experience of one upper middle-class, suburban, United Church of Christ congregation show that many young adults eschew traditional theological language, doctrine, and worship. However, many yearn for stronger connections with God and others who value spirituality. Through reflection, worship, and service, we engaged with the young adults of our church. Can congregations nurture those in the highly transitional stage and encourage them eventually to choose a new spiritual home?
