Abstract
  • Currently there is a conversation between pastoral, catechetical and liturgical leadership, concerning the age at which those baptized at infancy should receive confirmation. The result may be the establishment of a nationwide age for the reception confirmation. This project proposes an examination of the age for reception of confirmation programs in four parishes of the Diocese of Joliet and an analysis of the theological and historical development of confirmation. The research develops a set of recommendations for parish leadership and a set of recommendations for bishops that would lead to the return of the classical sequence for the reception of the sacraments of initiation--baptism, confirmation, and eucharist.
