Abstract
  • Church growth principles were analyzed from the perspective of Reformed theology and Presbyterian polity. A model for church growth based on hospitality (Hebrews 13:1-6) was developed. A program to reverse the membership trend in Eastminster Presbytery (59 churches in northeastern Ohio) included clergy and lay convocations, a major training event and a follow-up consisting of training volunteers in church growth. Churches participating in the program had growth rates significantly higher at the .01 level the first year of the program and significantly higher at the .05 level the second year than did the non-participating churches.
