- Abstract
- The purpose of the project is to find people interested in missions, share with them the task of the congregation's mission and form a Mission Society. The Mission Society informs the congregation of mission work and mission opportunities in the United States and abroad. The task of the Mission Society is to educate and challenge individuals to serve in missions wherever possible. A brief study of the congregation's constitution indicates that missions must be clearly defined as the prime purpose for the congregation's being. Further information reveals a variety of Mission Societies to accomplish that purpose. Many serve missions in concert with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, others serve agencies apart from Synodical structure. The theological study of 'God's mission' contributes to the scriptural knowledge of the student. Students discover God's worldview and His cross-cultural churches of the first century. The project provides assistance to the pastor in carrying out his ministerial task of Word and Sacrament. It increases awareness of mission challenges within the community, the Circuit, the District and the Synod. Foreign and local missions receive the benefit of the congregation's total participation in the undertaking. The project also opens an arena for a retired pastor to continue serving within a congregation.
