Abstract
  • The purpose of this dissertation is to develop a theological and a theoretical basis for a koinonia group. The theological rationale is based on the three-dimensional definition of koinonia by Joseph Henry Thayer. The theoretical section provides a definition of koinonia and establishes criteria for the formation of koinonia groups. Historic and contemporary examples of small groups are then examined and evaluated using Thayer's definition of koinonia. The praxis section demonstrates the effectiveness of a koinonia group in a local church, and validates the results by both subjective and objective measurement.
