Abstract
  • The project offers a foundation for the free church tradition to formulate its own lectionary as a basis for sermon text selection. It investigates the historical background of worship, the use of pericopes, and explores the Christian calendar as a basis for text selection and preaching built upon the doctrines of Christian faith. A survey was conducted to reveal how texts were selected, strengths and weaknesses of text selection, use of Christian calendar, and reaction to assigned texts. There was evidence to substantiate benefits of a free church lectionary design and resource.
