Abstract
  • The thesis concerns the task of clarifying membership expectations in the suburban community known as Deerhurst Presbyterian Church that has been influenced by American individualism and Church Growth of Christian discipleship in light of post-modern influences to discover ways that will assist believers to be more faithful. He reframes Deerhurst's understanding of membership through the use of symbolic and structural changes. The thesis concludes that churches can nurture faithful responses to the Gospel in today's post-modern culture if intentional efforts are made to clarify their unique Christian identity and what they expect of their members.
