Abstract
  • The author studies the doctrine and mission of the North American (LCMS) church in view of the third article of the Apostles' creed. The third article framework was used to clarify a genuinely Lutheran understanding of mission amid postmodern times, wherein Gospel proclamation and vocation were identified as integral to that mission. The author studies this in the local congregation by examining the implementation of a third article shaped congregational strategic plan (mission, vision, and strategy) and its impact on the formal organization and leadership structure of a congregation. Results demonstrated successful organizational implementation and positive impact on members.
