  • This project/dissertation contains brief introductions to all of the Scripture readings appointed for Sundays and special days for Year B in the Revised Common Lectionary. Designed to be read aloud at worship services in churches using the RCL, each incipit puts the reading in its calendrical and liturgical context while calling attention to its distincitve theme, purpose and emphasis. (Incipits are not provided for selections from the Psalter). An opening chapter discusses the evolution and characteristics of the RCL and other modern three-year eucharistic lectionary systems and offers a rationale for the use of incipits.
