Abstract
  • Pastors who have experienced physical disabilities perform pastoral tasks, such as hospital visitation and counseling, in ways qualitatively different from able-bodied pastors. The author includes a study of attitudes toward persons with disabilities, and two questionnaires. Some pastoral care theories and practices are reviewed. Conclusions are affirmative of contributions made by pastors with disabilities. Those who have 'been there' do create a better sense of rapport with clients or parishioners going through painful life experiences. Affirmations of ministries performed by pastors in the study lead to recommendations for PCUSA agencies and congregations.
