Abstract
  • In order for a congregation to mature into an inclusive community with more open boundaries, the pastor must 1) be aware of dynamics that have led the congregation to close itself off, and 2) not mirror the congregation's anxiety as it begins to open up. This project examines a congregation's negative experience with attempts to expand in the past, the radical openness and inclusivity of the New Testament church, and how a pastor can use familiarity with family systems theory to open this congregation's well patrolled boundaries.
