Abstract
  • This project develops a curriculum to teach preaching to persons in a United Methodist local pastor's school, the first formal training event required of a person en route to ordained ministry. Utilizing the Fred Craddock method of sermon preparation and delivery, and cognizant of adult learning theory, the curriculum offers students the possibility to experience for themselves preaching which is rooted in Scripture and liturgy, moves dialogically and has the capacity, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to change lives and communities. Analysis and evaluation of the project suggest that students who differ in ability, education, culture and goals can learn and profitably utilize the Craddock method of biblical exegesis and sermon formation and delivery.
