- Abstract
- Telling the story of Baptists' longstanding commitment to religious liberty has the potential to reverse a trend of recent decades among American Baptists to reject their commitment to church-state separation. After conducting research into the Baptist heritage of religious freedom, the author conducted educational events in five Baptist congregations in southeastern North Carolina in which he shared part of the Baptist story in this regard. Testing of subjects in this project indicated an increased dedication to church-state separation as a result narrating a portion of the history of Baptist involvement in the struggle for religious liberty in the United States.
