Abstract
  • The project deals with the para-professional model of ministry in the local church. Para-ministers are non-professional church workers, who serve alongside the ordained pastor who directs their efforts toward specific ministries. These persons are not bivocational pastors, associate pastors, or ministers of religious education, music, etc. They are lay persons who are given monetary remuneration for part-time services and full-time responsibilities. The project includes a biblical foundation and theological justification for the model along with guidelines for its implementation. Through case studies and evaluations of congregations which have used the model, the writer has demonstrated its viability, effectiveness, and potential.
