Abstract
  • The context for this research project was St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. This project developed the criteria for selecting visual art that expressed a sense of the holy. The research question was: 'Will visual art that expresses a sense of the holy increase viewers' attentiveness and responsiveness to God's presense?' Criteria were developed by interviewing art experts. These criteria were used to select images for a sample exhibit. Four focus groups viewed the exhibit and completed a questionnaire. The results of the questionnaire indicated that viewers' attentiveness and responsiveness to God's presence were significantly increased.
