Abstract
  • Anencephalic newborns should be eligible for organ transplantation if the highest ethical standards can be met. A chapter on philosophical issues assesses alleged violations of the obligations to avoid maleficence. A chapter on theological issues offers a religious perspective for processing the issue. Four lectures delivered to an adult church school class move from a survey of related biomedical questions to focus on the anencephalic matter. A questionnaire administered to the class examines changes in class thinking that result from the lectures.
