Abstract
  • This dissertation proposed the two part theme of covenant as central image for God's economy of salvation and the sermon as fleshy encounter with Christ. The author also tested the thesis that sermons explicitly utilizing covenant themes would be better understood and retained and more easily applied than sermons using other images. Questionnaires, both initial and follow-up, tested this thesis within the local parish context. Because the sample size was limited, and it was clear that there were uncontrolled variables the final conclusions of the tests were inconclusive, and the need for testing on a wider scale was recognized.
