- Abstract
- The project objective was to develop a model for a comfort ministry for the members of the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church who had experienced the loss of a loved one. The model embraced the existence of current and ancestral grief as the unique grief experienced by African Americans when their loved ones die. The project offered comfort and empowerment through recognition, confrontation and reconciliation of this unique grief. The researcher conducted triangulation qualitative research, using interview, survey and focus group methodology. This project consisted of a five-phase program in which bereaved members of Ebenezer participated. Findings revealed that participants were both comforted and empowered.
