Abstract
  • The worship experience in congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA) that have experienced racial transition from white to African American (Black) is most often ineffective for congregational renewal and redevelopment. The officers of Calvin Presbyterian Church (USA) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, were led through a series of workshops to develop a plan for changing the style of worship from a stiff Eurocentric experience to a more traditional expression of the African American religious experience. The result has been a worship style that creates greater opportunities for evangelism among potential converts within the church's immediate neighborhoods and community.
