- Abstract
- Expository preachers are convinced that the sermon--the public proclamation of the Word of God--is instrumental to the shaping of a congregation's corporate consciousness and behaviors. Nonetheless even positive changes inspired if not instigated by the Word of God are not always apparent. Consequently, one might question the effectiveness of his or her preaching ministry. One facet of congregational life which a short series of well-focused expository sermons addressed was the church's willingness to practice church discipline as prescribed by Jesus if and when it became necessary to do so.
