Abstract
  • The project draws upon the role of steward in the New Testament and an exploration of the use of possessions to reveal the presence or absence of trust in God or gods. It examines the experience of endowed churches in the Maine Conference of the United Church of Christ. By using a questionnaire, interview and workshop, the project assesses the attitudes and actions of church leaders toward the management of the endowment and the use of income in light of the church's accountability to God for possessions that ultimately belong to and are given by God.
