- The development of an instrument determining spirituality typology will be beneficial to spiritual direction. 'The wheel of spiritual experience,' based on the spirituality typology proposed by Urban T Holmes in his book, A History of Christian Spirituality, was developed and tested. Results show that the instrument is helpful in three ways. First, it provides a conceptual framework assisting individual persons to understand their own spiritual needs; second, it helps congregations to determine the spiritual position of their group; and third, it enables comparison of personal type with faith group type.
