- Abstract
- This study demonstrates that a less than optimal standard of pastoral care exists in the use of spiritual practices as alternative, complementary and integrative therapies within a pastoral care relationship and identifies the need for ethical guidelines. In response to these findings and questions, a standard of care and the norms that ground it within the sacred foundation of ministry was developed. Ethical guidelines are proposed to underpin a standard of pastoral care that will uphold the benefits of healing, ensure that physical, emotional and spiritual harm are avoided and support the faith community's accountability and responsibility for healing ministries.
