Abstract
  • The purpose of this project is to lead a group of adults from Cochrane Alliance Church in an intentional experience of integrated spiritual growth. The basic premise of the project is that although spiritual growth, or life transformation, is something only God produces, there is a definite role that individuals play as recipients of God's grace. Although spiritual growth is a process, it also requires intentional effort on the part of the believer. The Apostle Paul indicates the need for this kind of balance when he says, 'Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose' (Philippians 2:12-13). This pilot project involves offering a discipleship class called The Spiritual Exploration Class. The class challenges participants to identify a spiritual growth edge in their lives. Then, within the context of a small group and together with a spiritual director, each participant develops a personal spiritual growth plan to give focus to his or her efforts. The project essentially serves as a catalyst to move a person toward spiritual growth. The success of the pilot project is measured against the stated objectives of the project for the purpose of improving future programming. The primary means for evaluating how well the project meets its stated goals is through an evaluation questionnaire.
