Abstract
  • A factorial survey approach showed that latent racial, ethnic, and gender biases thwart implementation of a commitment to appoint pastors to churches 'without regard to race, ethnic origin, sex, or color'. Little support was found to relate receptivity to religious beliefs, motivation, or involvement, except for attendance patterns and for respondents who have women pastors. Effects of racism and sexism education differ significantly. Laity rated all vignettes much higher than pastors had estimated.
