- In the Philippines, the kinship between single women and companion animals is critiqued for not being aligned with the Christian tradition of marriage and family. Literature indicates that this ideology is rooted in anthropocentric, patriarchal, colonial, and imperial logics of domination that simultaneously marginalize both women and animals. Through phenomenological interviews, ten (10) Filipino single women aged 26–60 described their relationships with their companion animals. Employing the frameworks of Laudato Si’s ecological conversion, ecofeminism, postcolonial ecofeminism, and feminist standpoint epistemology—supported by literature on feminist animal care, Franciscan animal spirituality, and critical animal studies—the data reveal that this kinship is a ministry praxis that exhibits ecological conversion, which I call a multispecies home of ministry. This ministry praxis facilitates spiritual and environmental development through embodied and sensorial relations with companion animals. Moreover, it disrupts interwoven systems of marginalization against women and animals. Ultimately, this expression of ecological conversion contributes to the healing of our relationship with creation and serves as a liberatory model for the practice of human-animal companionship. This model of ministry praxis calls for a reframing of how we define ministry—one that is multispecies, reciprocal, non-hierarchical, and homegrown.
