  • How can claiming its Wesleyan heritage revitalize a small New England United Methodist congregation for mission and ministry? To answer this, a six-month project involving teaching, preaching, spiritual formation, study and discussion was undertaken to help the congregation learn more about their Wesleyan heritage and reclaim relevant portions of it. Surveys at the beginning and end of the project were used to measure learning growth. A sermon series, a small group experience, and other awareness opportunities were utilized. Expected outcomes of 1) new and strong self-identity as United Methodists in the Wesleyan tradition, and 2) at least two new programs or ministries specifically Wesleyan/Methodist in nature were met to a somewhat limited degree.
