Abstract
  • This project proposes a pastor's orientation class for newcomers and visitors as a process to share individual stories and to incorporate these persons and their stories into the life of the church. A survey of new members added to a congregation over a four-year period reveals that more than 90 percent joined and were baptized as a result of attending the class. In the class the participants' stories become the stories of those who share them in reading and hearing. Incorporation into church life becomes a natural progression.
