Abstract
  • The author studies the development of campus ministry at a United Methodist affiliated liberal arts college. He examines the relative importance of programs and interpersonal relationships. The two-year project uses annual student assessments which evaluate the ministry's effectiveness. Research for the project includes: a review of Methodist involvement in higher education and a survey of chaplains at midwestern colleges, which lists their satisfactions and frustrations as well as their perceptions of the effectiveness of their programs. The author provides a statement of theological foundations for campus ministry. Conclusions reinforce the need for student leadership and the chaplain's regular involvement in student life.
