Abstract
  • This project asks, 'why are the poor absent from mainline Protestant churches?' and then grapples with that question by exploring the meaning of the radical Christian mandate to 'love one's neighbor as oneself' (Lk 10:27). To that end, the project appropriates principles of narrative therapy (Epston and White) and Latin American liberation theology for an understanding of solidarity with the poor. The project presents a two-part workshop integrating theory and praxis of solidarity: a study guide to the book of Job and a review of a successful church food pantry model. Story-telling is the central motif.
