- Abstract
- Group identity and vocation are threatened and begin to unravel under the assault of pervasive and rapid change. This dissertation describes the dramatic upheaval occurring in a church whose history and identity have been imbedded in a rural community since pre-Civil War days. Such upheaval and transition demand a process of reorientation that identifies vital elements for reconstructing an appropriate Christian ministry among a community in such seismic flux. Combining theological reflection, group interaction and 'acts of hospitality' provided a crucial first step in restoring the equilibrium of an old bluecollar neighborhood church and rekindling their sense of mission.
